Advancing Maternal Healthcare: Edith Institute's Innovative Approach
Alicia Suguitan, Executive Director and Co-founder of the Edith Institute, recently took the stage at the ElevateEquity social enterprise accelerator Demo Day, hosted by the Flywheel social enterprise accelerator. With a clear mission of ensuring every mother survives childbirth and pregnancy, Alicia presented on Edith Institute's groundbreaking work in implementing a novel continuing medical education (CME) approach for maternal healthcare providers.
The event, held at the 1819 Innovation Hub through the University of Cincinnati, provided a platform for Alicia to showcase Edith Institute's innovative strategies aimed at disrupting bias and fostering better trust and communication between patients and providers.
Edith Institute's CME training draws upon evidence-informed methodologies, incorporating expertise in education and training, OBGYN healthcare, and most notably, community stories directly from Black mothers. By centering the voices and experiences of Black mothers, Edith Institute aims to equip healthcare providers with the necessary tools and insights to deliver more culturally competent care.
Alicia's presentation not only highlighted the critical need for improved maternal healthcare but also underscored Edith Institute's commitment to driving positive change in the field. The event also featured presentations from four other organizations and founders, collectively showcasing a diverse range of innovative solutions to pressing social challenges.
As we continue to strive for equitable and accessible healthcare for all, Edith Institute stands at the forefront, pioneering new approaches and advocating for the well-being of mothers everywhere.
